About Age Grading

What is Age Grading?

Age grading is a system that adjusts running performances based on age and gender, allowing fair comparison across different demographics. It accounts for the natural decline in performance as runners age.

How is it Calculated?

Your actual time is multiplied by an age factor to produce an age-graded time. This is then compared to the open world record for your distance to calculate your age grading percentage.

Performance Level Guide

  • World-Class: 90% or higher - Elite performance
  • National Class: 80-89% - Highly competitive
  • Regional Class: 70-79% - Very competitive
  • Local Class: 60-69% - Competitive
  • Good: 50-59% - Above average
  • Recreational: Below 50% - Recreational runner
